GSDI Association becomes Official Observer to UN-GGIM Europe and UN-GGIM Americas
At its meeting on 5 October in Budapest, the GSDI Association was offered official Observer status on UN-GGIM Europe - the European Regional Committee of the United Nations Group of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management. The Association was officially represented at the meeting by Dr Gabor Remetey.
European Institutions, professional, research and academic organizations or associations, which have an interest in geospatial or statistical information management can be considered to being Observer Organisations of UN-GGIM: Europe. Observer status is already held by GSDI Members EUROGI and EuroGeographics.
UN-GGIM: Europe is a regional committee of the United Nations Initiative on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). It was formally established on 1 October 2014 when the European UN Member States assumed full responsibility for its operations and adopted a work plan. An executive committee led by Bengt Kjellson from Sweden oversees its activities and reports regularly to the UN-GGIM global Committee of Experts. On 29 August, GSDI Association also achieved Observer status in a second Regional Committee - UN-GGIM Americas. The Association is being represented at the Committee meeting on 5-6 October in Mexico City, Mexico, by Snr. Rodrigo Barriga Vargas, Secretary General of PAIGH (Pan-American Institute of Geography and History), who are also long-time GSDI Members. See the GSDI Report to the Committee here (PDF).
